On August 15, 2012 Sandra Fluke wrote the following piece about Paul Ryan’s proposals for MSNBC. Read it here: http://leanforward.msnbc.com/_news/2012/08/15/13301064-sandra-fluke-paul-ryan-on-womens-issues-so-bad-its-unbelievable-but-true?lite
These are truly the ramblings of a fool. There are so many lies I will have to break them down individually.
Fluke Lie #1.) “Ryan voted for a bill referred to as the “Let Women Die Bill” because it proposed to allow hospitals to refuse a woman emergency abortion care, even if her life was in immediate danger. Currently, a federally funded hospital is required to provide at least enough care for a patient to be stabilized so that she doesn’t die and can be transferred to another hospital. The bill Ryan voted for meant that hospitals wouldn’t even have had to do that.” – Sandra Fluke.
Only the truly deranged would refer to the “The Protect Life Act, H.R. 358” as the “Let Women Die Bill.” This bill was passed in the house as a REACTION to Barack Obama’s recently discovered plans to include tax payer funded policies in the new Obamacare exchanges that cover abortion. If you remember, Obama promised “Stupid Stupak” – former Michigan Rep Bart Stupak that if he rallied the ‘Blue Dog” democrat hold outs to vote for Obamacare he would sign an executive order that specifically PROHIBITED tax payer funded abortion in Obamacare. As a result the “Stupak Amendment” was signed.
Then, it was discovered that health insurance purchased in the Obamacare health insurance exchanges would INDEED include coverage for abortion. And, this discovery prompted the writing of this bill. Now, it’s important for everyone to see with their OWN EYES, the kind of hyperbolic LIES coming from the left. LIES like the one in Fluke’s statement above and I quote: “because it proposed to allow hospitals to refuse a woman emergency abortion care“.
Click here http://www.gpo.gov/fdsys/pkg/BILLS-112hr358ih/pdf/BILLS-112hr358ih.pdf to read “The Protect Life Act, H.R. 358″. Here’s PROOF that Fluke is a LIAR. Quote from Page 3 of the bill, beginning on line 9:
9 ‘‘(c) LIMITATION ON ABORTION FUNDING.—
10 ‘‘(1) IN GENERAL.—No funds authorized or appropriated by this Act (or an amendment made by
this Act), including credits applied toward qualified health plans under section 36B of the Internal Revenue Code of 1986 or cost-sharing reductions under section 1402 of this Act, may be used to pay for any
abortion or to cover any part of the costs of any health plan that includes coverage of abortion,
‘‘(A) if the pregnancy occurred because the pregnant female was the subject of an act of forcible rape or, if a minor, an act of incest; or
‘‘(B) in the case where a pregnant female suffers from a physical disorder, physical in jury, or physical illness that would, as certified by a physician, place the female in danger of death unless an abortion is performed, including a life-endangering physical condition caused by or arising from the pregnancy itself.
‘‘(2) OPTION TO PURCHASE SEPARATE COVERAGE OR PLAN.—Nothing in this subsection shall be construed as prohibiting any non-Federal entity (including an individual or a State or local government) from purchasing separate coverage for abortions for which funding is prohibited under this subsection, or a qualified health plan that includes such abortions, so long as—
‘(A) such coverage or plan is paid for entirely using only funds not authorized or appropriated by this Act; and
‘‘(B) such coverage or plan is not purchased using ‘‘(i) individual premium payments required for a qualified health plan offered through an Exchange towards which a credit is applied under section 36B of the
Internal Revenue Code of 1986; or other non-Federal funds required to receive a Federal payment, including a State’s or locality’s contribution of Medicaid matching funds.”
So in summary, this bill was in RESPONSE to the attempt by Barack Obama to circumvent the PROMISE he made not only to the American people but in writing to Bart Stupak that his health care law would not use federal funds to provide for abortion. The bill does NOT prohibit mothers from obtaining tax payer funded abortions in the event of rape or incest or ANY physical disorder, injury or illness that would place her life in danger. Again, this is the way existing law under the Hyde amendment has been worded for YEARS. Sandra Fluke is a LIAR.
Fluke Lie #2.) “Ryan co-sponsored a federal personhood bill. That bill declared a fertilized egg that hasn’t even resulted in a pregnancy to be the equivalent of a living person, with all of the rights of federal law. As a result, aspects of in vitro fertilization procedures and some forms of contraception would be criminalized, as would operations to save a woman’s life in the case of dangerous ectopic pregnancies that cannot be carried to term.”
Here Fluke is referring to House Resolution (H.R.) 212, the Sanctity of Human Life Act.
Sidebar: Notice how her links never point to the actual bills themselves?
This is a three paged bill. Read it here: http://www.gpo.gov/fdsys/pkg/BILLS-112hr212ih/pdf/BILLS-112hr212ih.pdf that simply confirms what biological science has already revealed to be true. That a human life begins at fertilization: the union of an egg and sperm result in a UNIQUE, genetically DISTINCT human being. There is NOTHING in the bill that would ‘criminalize aspects of in vitro fertilization procedures and some forms of contraception or operations to save a woman’s life in the case of dangerous ectopic pregnancies that cannot be carried to term.” The existing wording in the aforementioned “Hyde Amendment”, “Stupak Amendment” as well as the “Protect Life Act H.R. 358” would still provide for tax payer funds if such ‘dangerous ectopic pregnancies’ would arise. Since, an ‘ectopic pregnancy’ is indeed a “physical illness that would, as certified by a physician, that would place the female in danger of death unless an abortion is performed, including a life-endangering physical condition caused by or arising from the pregnancy itself.”
And then there’s the desperate and entirely BASELESS current attempt by left wing ‘superstars’ like Eva Longoria, Stephanie Cutter and Tammy Duckworth to demonize Congressional representatives like Paul Ryan, Joe Walsh & Todd Akin. The current lie is that these men are attempting to ‘redefine rape’. Not only is this a ridiculous assertion, but it is has ABSOLUTELY NO factual basis. Read the truth here.
Fluke Lie #3) “Ryan voted to cut off Title X family planning programs that ensure impoverished and low-wage women affordable access to contraception as well as mammograms and cancer-screenings.”
TitleX provides funding to Planned Parenthood. Planned Parenthood performed an average of 906 abortions a day in 2009. In fact, abortion has become an increasing part of Planned Parenthood as a whole, the concern is even greater when considering the high volume of abortion patients at some specific Planned Parenthood-affiliated clinics that receive Title X funding. According to the annual report for one Planned Parenthood affiliate, Planned Parenthood of New York City (PPNYC), a Title X recipient, abortion constituted 28 percent of its clinical services in 2008. But even this figure does not give a true sense of scale of abortion at PPNYC. It must be underscored that reporting percentages of “services” (where a pregnancy test is given the same weight as an abortion) is Planned Parenthood’s way of minimizing its number of patients and amount of clinic income related to abortion. – h/t LifeNews.com
Even more concerning is the fact that a Planned Parenthood clinics around the nation have been caught on film offering “sex selective” abortions. Nothing could be more reprehensible than making a decision to abort based on the sex of the fetus. Watch this undercover video:
Fluke Lie #4). “Ryan’s budget attacks on Social Security, Medicaid, Medicare, and a broad range of social services (including child care, Head Start, job training, Pell Grants, housing and energy assistance) would disproportionately harm women’s economic wellbeing. That’s because the majority of beneficiaries of these programs are women, due to their longer life spans and greater likelihood of being impoverished.”
Paul Ryan’s plan was cosponsored on a bipartisan basis by Paul Ryan (R) and Senator Ron Wyden (D) – Oregon. It saves Medicare for future generations by introducing competition into the Medicare arena and allowing the wealthy to opt out of Traditional Medicare. Barack Obama’s plan for Medicare – Obamacare – contains no plans to save Medicare for future generations. It only extends the life of Medicare to 2023 by cutting hundreds of billions of dollars in reimbursements to doctors, hospitals and home health care clinics. Learn the truth about the Ryan Wyden Medicare Reform proposal by clicking here: https://csteventucker.wordpress.com/2012/08/21/1801/
Ryan’s plans also block grants Medicaid funds back to the states. This concept was a HUGE success under President Reagan and it is a HUGE success in the states that are doing so right now. Like, Indiana, Rhode Island and New York. In fact, President Bill Clinton’s idea of block granting Medicaid and tying it to a ‘per capita’ cap is another idea that could be implemented. Doing nothing is not an option. Learn more about the prior success of block granting Medicaid to the states here: http://theccpp.org/2012/10/why-block-granting-medicaid-will-result-in-better-health-care-for-the-poor.html
Ryan’s latest two budget proposals DO NOT call for partial privatizing of social security. Partial privatizing of social security was part of Ryan’s 2010 budget proposal. Ms. Fluke should study Ryan’s budget 2012 proposal.
Interesting how Ms. Fluke does not mention that Barack Obama himself called for Social Security cuts only last year. http://www.washingtonpost.com/business/economy/in-debt-talks-obama-offers-social-security-cuts/2011/07/06/gIQA2sFO1H_story.html So by proposing changes to Social Security does that also mean that President Obama is “attacking” Social Security? Does that also mean President Obama is “disproportionately harming women’s economic well being”? Or, do such baseless, hyperbolic, attacks only apply to Republicans?
The fact is that the trustees who oversee Social Security say the trust funds that support the program will run dry in 2033. At that point, Social Security will generate only enough tax revenue to pay about 75 percent of benefits, triggering automatic cuts unless Congress acts. So, something has to be done to save the program. This is precisely why both Paul Ryan and Barack Obama are exploring options to save it.
Fluke Lie #5) Ryan repeatedly voted over several years to end all funding for Planned Parenthood’s non-abortion services. Like Susan G. Komen’s defunding, voting to cut off funding of Planned Parenthood would rob women of access to breast cancer screenings, cervical cancer screenings, and the other life-saving services Planned Parenthood provides. By law, federal funding of Planned Parenthood already excludes all abortions except in cases of rape, incest, or when a woman’s life is in danger.
Again, this is a lie. See aforementioned responses to Lie #2 and #3.
Fluke Lie #6) Ryan co-sponsored a bill that would deny many rape victims on Medicaid access to abortion. That bill proposed to cut off access through federally-funded programs for victims who were drugged or threatened, some victims of incest, and victims of statutory rape.
Again, this is also a lie. See aforementioned responses to Lie #2 and #3.
Fluke Lie #7.) Ryan voted repeatedly to prevent our female military service-members from using their own private money to pay for abortion at a military hospital. He also voted for legislation to allow bans on abortion coverage in the new state health-insurance exchanges, even for women paying with their own money.
Again, Ms. Fluke does not point to the bill that she is referring to. She instead points to the Huffington Post which reiterates the same lies she told in Lie #2 and Lie #3. Regarding “voting for legislation to allow bans on abortion coverage in the new state health insurance exchanges.” Yes, he did. Again, this was in reaction to President Obama’s broken promise to Bart Stupak to ‘not fund abortion with Obamacare.’ This was already addressed above in response to Fluke Lie #2.
